Today I am going to explain you about the IPMI reset of different vendors multiple methods. See the below chart and see how they call it for their OOB management interface but they do same job. sometime interface might difference and features are not same like others.
Each vendors have multiple methods to reset their own IPMI modules. Here we are talking about how it’s work on GUI. Sometime we have seen GUI is not availble to perform this we will have to use different approach to reset. Let’s talk about in another article with other possible options.

1. HPE iLO (Integrated Lights-Out)
HPE has their own proprietary out of band management system called iLO which provides enterprise customers to manage and control their HPE servers remotely.
This is how it’s looks like (iLO version 5 you might have different version but looks similar)
Reset option is availble on the Diagnostics tab in the Information section.
Click on reset iLO button to reset the iLO. bear in mind all the active sessions which has been made to this iLO will be lost but nothing changed on the configuration such as iLO IP address etc.
This will bring up the right side Reset iLO pane to go ahead. You will be logged out by the system after few seconds. see the below.
This will take sometime to reset the iLO. Once login to iLO you will see the below event has been logged in iLO Event Log as proof of resetting the iLO.

2. SuperMicro
If you are a SuperMicro customer here is the steps that can reset the BMC controller via WebUI. They have changed their classic UI with latest servers as below.
Login to IPMI IP via brwoser
Select the Maintenance from the left menu and click on the BMC Reset option available.
There are two option availble. please make sure to select Unit reset which helps to reset BMC controller. If you want to reset the BIOS Factory default will be your option. select preserve configuration or remove settings as per the requirement. Let’s talk about later.
It will prompt and ask do you really want to reset the BMC. Say YES and wait few minutes until BMC rebooted properly.

3. IBM (Integrated Management Module : IMM)
Most of you might have worked with IBM servers, now most of the servers we see in the field are Lenovo, because they acquired part of IBM. This is how you could restart IMM through the GUI. I will explain how management controller can be restart in Lenovo nodes next below.
Login to the IMM. (Username : USERID , Password : PASSW0RD (with number 0 not letter O)
This is how it looks like when login. Navigate through the left pane to see the details such as Event logs etc.

4. Lenovo Systems
Lenovo XClarity (XCC) is the management plane of the IPMI interface of the node. This provides IT engineers to access the Lenovo hardware remotely to manage their infrastructure. Most of the cases resetting this controller is required. I will show you how to restart the BMC controller through XCC interface.
The steps are pretty much the same as those for other vendors. You must access XClarity (XCC) through the IP and log in using the credential.
<The default username and password for the Lenovo XClarity Controller (XCC) is USERID and PASSW0RD respectively. Note that the “0” in PASSW0RD is a zero, not the letter “O” >
Navigate to the Quick actions in Home page (See the exhibit below)
There will be a drop-down, and click on Restart Management Controller to reset the BMC of the Lenovo nodes.
Once it is being reset, you will be logged out and wait 2-3minutes until reset id done.

5. Dell Servers
Dell servers have their own interface to manage the nodes remotely. This is called Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC). Latest version the iDRAC is version 9 but I have screenshots from version 8 which is previous version. I will try to add new versions as soon as I have the screenshots because iDRAC version 9 has different interface from iDRAC version 8.
You should access the iDRAC through GUI via user name password. The default user name & password for iDRAC is root / calvin (lower case)
The reset iDRAC option is available on the home page. Please note that if the iDRAC version is 9, it is not the same as below.
Once reset the iDRAC all existing sessions and including the current session will be closed.
